Offshore company, Bernhard Schulte, acquires delivery of CSOV Windea Clausius vessel.
The delivery of the second Methanol-ready CSOV, Windea Clausius, marks a significant step forward in the development and deployment of such vessels for offshore operations. This delivery follows the successful operations of Windea Curie, which has already begun serving the Dutch-German offshore transmission system operator, TenneT.
Windea Clausius, part of the SX222 series for Bernhard Schulte Offshore, was delivered to the company by Ulstein Verft. The CSOV, designed by Ulstein Design & Solutions, is equipped with a range of advanced features.
Centrally located and height-adjustable, the walk-to-work gangway and elevator tower ensure safe and efficient access to offshore facilities. The CSOV is also equipped with a 3D motion-compensated crane for offshore lifts up to five tonnes.
The CSOV, like its predecessor Windea Curie, features the TWIN X-STERN configuration and azimuth propulsion at both ends, providing excellent manoeuvrability in various offshore conditions. It also boasts a hybrid battery propulsion system, further enhancing its eco-friendliness.
What sets Windea Clausius apart is its readiness for methanol fuel. According to Ulstein, the CSOV is designed to use this cleaner-burning fuel, a move that aligns with the industry's push towards more sustainable practices.
This delivery signifies an expansion of Bernhard Schulte Offshore's fleet of methanol-ready CSOVs. The company had earlier signed an agreement with Ulstein Verft for the design and construction of two such vessels, with options for four additional ones.
The hull of the second CSOV arrived at Ulstein Verft in Norway from Poland on 11 March, kick-starting the construction process. The delivery of Windea Clausius signifies a continued partnership between Bernhard Schulte Offshore and Ulstein Verft.
Windea Clausius is likely to be used to support offshore grid connection facilities in the North Sea, similar to the role of Windea Curie. With this delivery, Bernhard Schulte Offshore and Ulstein Verft are contributing to the development of sustainable offshore operations in the North Sea.
