MTV Video Music Awards 2025: Megan Moroney Takes Home the Prize for 'Best Country Category'
Megan Moroney made a memorable entrance at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, accepting the Best Country award while walking the red carpet ahead of the primetime show at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.
The rising country star, who won for her song "Am I Okay?", seemed surprised and excited about her victory, expressing disbelief about being part of such a prestigious event. In her acceptance speech, Moroney thanked a handful of collaborators and supporters.
Moroney's acceptance speech was filled with humor and personal anecdotes. She compared the trophy to a Home Goods one and mentioned that she had previously fought over a similar "Moon Man" statue at a White Elephant Christmas event.
Megan Moroney defeated a number of notable artists to win the Best Country award, including Jelly Roll, Chris Stapleton, Cody Johnson, Carrie Underwood, Lainey Wilson, and Morgan Wallen.
The "Moon Man" trophy that Moroney received is a symbol of winning an MTV Video Music Award. This year, the 2025 VMAs presented two new trophies, including Best Country.
Other notable nominees in the Best Country category included Morgan Wallen, who competed for Artist of the Year, Best Album, and Song of the Summer at the awards. Jelly Roll competed for four trophies, including Best Country, Video For Good, Best Hip-Hop, and Best Alternative. Fast-rising hitmaker Ella Langley received a Best New Artist nomination.
The 2025 VMAs aired on Sunday night on CBS and MTV. Unfortunately, the CMT Music Awards, MTV's sister network's annual event, were canceled due to the merger between parent company Paramount and Skydance Media. Carrie Underwood, who often dominated the fan-voted CMT Music Awards, winning Video of the Year nine times between 2007 and 2021, was not present to defend her title. Jelly Roll was the last artist to win Video of the Year at the CMT Music Awards, scoring the trophy in 2024 for his single "Need A Favor."
Before the live show, Moroney gave a pre-show acceptance speech during which she expressed gratitude for the votes and support. The Best Pop Artist was the other new trophy presented during Sunday night's live show.
The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards was a night full of excitement and surprises, with Megan Moroney's win being one of the highlights.
