Casino patron assaulted and robbed by a Chicago man, barely a month following his pre-trial release for committing the same offense.
In the heart of Chicago, a 27-year-old man named Willie Greenwood has found himself in hot water following a series of robberies targeting casino patrons. Greenwood's criminal spree began in March 2025, when he was arrested for robbing a 65-year-old individual at gunpoint near the temporary Bally's casino at Medinah Temple. Despite being released on pretrial in April, Greenwood resumed his criminal activities.
The most recent incident occurred last month, when Greenwood allegedly beat up a 40-year-old man in a parking garage near the casino. The victim lost $2,500 in cash and several credit cards during the attack. Judge James Murphy III, who is handling Greenwood's case, ordered that he remain detained after the most recent incident, citing Greenwood's repeated violent behaviour.
The incidents have been linked to the shuttle bus route between the casino property and Chinatown. Surveillance footage from the parking garage shows the suspect running back to his vehicle after the robbery. Police found a BB gun in the car during a search related to the robbery.
Greenwood is now facing three separate robbery cases associated with casino patrons, including a violent attack in the River North area of Chicago. The judge emphasized Greenwood’s repeated violent behavior as justification for denying further pretrial release. The cases are still active, and Greenwood awaits trial.
The alleged robberies took place near the temporary Bally's casino in Medinah Temple. Greenwood's violent attacks on casino patrons, even while on pretrial release for the same offense, have raised concerns about the safety of casino-goers in the area. The police are urging anyone with information about these incidents to come forward and help bring Greenwood to justice.
